Sustainability – working with
your environment

At PGR, we see sustainability as the ongoing protection and improvement of gardening system functions in order to reduce future chemical, manual and financial inputs, whilst maintaining the desired aesthetic of the garden. Water sensitive design improvements and reduction in the use of materials with a high carbon footprint are also sustainable methods we employ. Recycled, reclaimed, locally sourced materials or the re-use of materials made on site (eg. mulch from tree removal, or soil put aside from excavation, etc..) all help reduce the use of carbon based materials and other finite resources, which ensures we are assisting in safeguarding our natural environment, not exploiting it. We also take into consideration the unique conditions of each garden and select plants based on matching environmental tolerances and suitable visual qualities, then follow this up by encouraging sustainable practises that support these conditions (eg. Composting). When it comes down to it, our whole philosophy is rooted in our ambition of working with nature and not against it.

All gardens are unique

PGR sees the garden as a unique space that reflects the style and character of those whom own them. For this reason we like to spend time putting plant and material palettes together so that they more than just suit the prescribed garden style - they embellish it, as no two gardens are the same. Our forte in particular is the restoration of older gardens. The opportunities that arise for plant and material selection when we re-visit history are instrumental in re-invigorating that old-world charm. What's more, with existing green and hard landscape elements a sense of cohesion and establishment is easily achieved throughout, giving great results in a very short space of time.

Harmony in Design – the house
and garden are complimentary

A home is the family's castle. It is a representation of the family character and their lifestyle, and this rings true in the external spaces too. The garden provides room for an extension of this concept, meaning the garden and the house need to be read as one design move. Day to day practicalities and desirable aesthetics allow the two elements to be brought together, and with clever design creating harmony throughout, the transitions between the two are easily melted creating a seamless quality. The whole property becomes a space of tranquillity and enjoyment. A place everyone wants to be.

Plan for change – know where
your garden is going

Gardens are not static. They grow and develop over time, just as our ideas and tastes do. Just like the garden structure and micro-climate changes as a result of the maturation of trees and plants, or the way that soils are gradually depleted of nutrients and their ability to absorb water, and the similar fact that plants naturally lose their vigour due to age. It's all a natural process that can be dealt with simply by planning for renewal and change. PGR believe an overall development scheme can help prepare for these changes and a schedule of maintenance can then be used as a tool for appropriate actions and timeframes. It's nothing to be daunted by. Embracing change is easy with professional guidance, consultation and the right tools in place.
