Professional Garden Restorations Home

PGR's director, Rob Sparkes, turned to gardening as a career in 1986 and has been developing the company since 2004. Gardening was a natural occupational choice having grown up on one of the most secluded Edna Walling designed gardens in the Dandenong's – Bucky Braes in Ferny Creek. Rob's grandparents owned the property for several decades, which allowed Rob to spend much of his childhood exploring hidden green spaces & dense plantings below contrasting canopies of trees provided by the garden and Sherbrooke Forest at the rear of the property. Having developed such a strong relationship with the property, Rob re-established contact with the new owners after his grandparents sold up, and is now employed as Bucky Braes' sole gardener.

Rob's childhood memories and experiences of Buckybraves haven't been the only strong influence on his direction and outlook for the future. The education received from Melbourne University's Burnley College has taught Rob the values of gardening, a healthy environment and ensuring absolute professionalism across a range of disciplines including Arboriculture, Horticulture and Landscaping.

As an Environmental Scientist, Deb Sparkes contributes greatly to this operative aim through the accurate and detailed research she provides for PGR's Arborist Report service. As a consulting arborist, Deb has also been profoundly influenced by garden landscapes having grown up on a generous old property called Tosari, which abutted a National Park in the Dandenong Ranges. Deb has had much experience developing environmental management policies, tree management policies and environmental reports and is very focussed on ensuring the best outcomes.

Great results are what PGR strive for, which is why Alison Fenton has been employed to assist in the management of the company and also to provide a landscape design service that compliments PGR's already substantial list of capabilities. Alison has been working in the Horticultural Industry for the past 12 years, 8 of which have been dedicated to landscape design. Having grown up on bushland, farming and coastal properties, Alison demonstrates a clear understanding of the interlocking systems making up our natural landscape. An instinctive sense of design lead Alison from the study of Horticulture to the study of Landscape Architecture, so it comes as no surprise that Alison's passion for sustainable, creative landscapes and intelligent design solutions shine through in everything she does.

The PGR ground team are a cohesive bunch of qualified horticulturalists with considerable experience in the maintenance, restoration and installation of quality gardens. PGR prides itself on employing friendly, approachable staff with a 'can-do' attitude that enjoy developing strong relationships with clients. PGR believe clear and regular communication and continuity are essential components of successful gardening, which is also why one team-leader is assigned to each garden.
